Arsenal defender Robert Holding remains optimistic that his side can reach the final of the Carabao Cup after the Gunners were able to grind out a 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the first-leg of their semi-final.
Arsenal left Stamford Bridge with an invaluable draw as they took a big step towards the Carabao Cup final. The Blues had the better of the chances in the contest, but neither side could break the deadlock, with Arsene Wenger’s men the happier at full time.
The match was something of a let down considering the two had played out a gripping 2-2 draw in their last game. However, the fans will likely get treated to a far better match in the second-leg, with both sides desperate to pick up the first silverware of the campaign.
Due to the 0-0 scoreline and the fact Arsenal are playing at home in the next game, they will feel that the win is there for the taking, and defender Rob Holding is optimistic of their chances. He told Arsenal Player: “I think it’s a good result for us to take back to the Emirates in the second leg, where we can hopefully nick a goal and get the win and into the final. We had a point to prove here. We came under some scrutiny with our defensive display in the (Forest) game, so it was big for me to just get a clean sheet and have a solid game really”.
“We knew we couldn’t lose. A draw is a great result to take back in front of our home fans and hopefully we can get the win there”.
While some may cite that Chelsea are still very much in the tie, the mental boost Arsenal will have gotten from keeping a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge is huge. It is still all very much to play for in the next game.
