Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang spoke to Henrikh Mkhitaryan about an Arsenal switch before his moves in January

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that he spoke with Henrikh Mkhitaryan about a switch to Arsenal before their January moves.

Arsenal hammered Everton on Saturday in an impressive 5-1 win as the London side put their scoring difficulties behind them. Aaron Ramsey bagged a hat-trick while Laurent Koscielny and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang completed the scoring.

The victory means that Arsenal have been able to cut the gap between themselves and Tottenham to just four points. If they can defeat their London rivals on Saturday then the gap will be just one point, while a loss would see it increase to a massive seven points.

While Tottenham will have to scoring power of Harry Kane to look to, Spurs will need to find a way to stifle Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette.

Interestingly, Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang apparently spoke about a potential move to Arsenal before their January moves. The pair formed a deadly-duo whilst at Borussia Dortmund, with Aubameyang scoring the goals and Mkhitaryan clocking the assists as the two shone in the Bundesliga.

The duo formed such a superb partnership that they apparently sounded each other out before they moved to the side. Aubameyang told Arsenal Weekly: “He called me a few times, he asked ‘will you come or not?’ I said ‘first you have to tell me if you sign or no”.

“He told me all was done and of course it was a big factor in coming here. It’s like a brother, a good friend. We played together in the past and I’m really happy to see him again”.

“We understand each other on and off the pitch, that’s why it’s easier on the pitch”.

The pair were outstanding against Everton and if they can strengthen their partnership, then Arsenal could become a force in the Premier League once again.
