Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan has criticised Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over his move to Premier League rivals Arsenal, with the Gabon striker reportedly handing in a transfer request to Borussia Dortmund before his £56 million switch to London.
Arsenal were able to return to winning ways last weekend as the London side dismantled Everton in a 5-1 win. Aaron Ramsey bagged a hat-trick, while Laurent Koscielny and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also got on the scoresheet for the day.
The scoreline suggests that the contest was very one-sided, but it probably should have been more as the Gunner utterly dominated their opponents, with the first-half showing an incredibly impressive one. Considering the London side had slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea in the match before, this was a welcome return to form for Arsene Wenger’s men.
While the win itself was the most important thing, Wenger will have been pleased to see new signing Aubameyang get his first Arsenal goal on his debut. His move to the side has been hailed as a superb transfer, while the partnership he will likely strike up with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who he was at Dortmund with, could see Arsenal battling for the top four places once again.
However, his transfer to Arsenal has been criticised by former-Dortmund teammate Ilkay Gundogan. SportBild reported that the Manchester City midfielder said: “I don’t know if I could have done it like Auba did. At that time I was also criticised for my open change intentions at BVB. The reaction of the fans I understood a bit. But I only wanted to be honest and always gave everything for the club”
“Both parties live with the solution taken, although Dortmund loses a very, very good player. I very much hope that now peace is restored. Because you need it to be successful in the Bundesliga. All the bickering was certainly not conducive for the performance of the team”.
Aubameyang will be looking to focus solely on helping his new side take back their Champions League place and he will be desperate to make it two games in a row in which he has scored by netting against arch-rivals Tottenham at the weekend.
