Newcastle United are preparing a bid for Arsenal’s out-of-favour central midfielder Jack Wilshere, according to the Daily Express. The report also claims that Wilshere has accepted the fact that he is now surplus to requirements in north London.
The 25-year-old’s contract in north London expires next summer and it seems unlikely that a chance offer will be forthcoming.
Wilshere needs to prove himself
In his teen years, Wilshere was supposedly destined to be a star. However, the midfielder’s problems with injuries are well documented, as close to a decade Wilshere has struggled to stay away from injuries.
With every passing season, Arsenal fans have less faith that one day the midfielder will fulfil his supposed potential at the north London club. The midfielder spent the majority of last season on-loan at Bournemouth.
For much of the season, he avoided injury. In fact, he made 22 starts and five substitute appearances for the Cherries in the Premier League. The campaign was the second most successful of his career so far in terms of appearances in the top-flight.
In reality, he did not pull up any trees on the south coast and towards the end of the campaign, the inevitable happened. He sustained an injury. The midfielder is now 25-year-old and must start to prove that he can improve as a player.
In-demand this summer
Despite largely underwhelming last season, a number of clubs are reportedly interested in signing Wilshere this summer. Bournemouth, Sampdoria and West Ham have are all mooted destinations for the midfielder.
Wilshere may have to take a step back before taking a step forward in his career. It looks like his days at Arsenal are numbered. The north London club looks to have lost patience with the star.
Move best for everybody
At this stage, Wilshere moving elsewhere before the summer transfer window shuts looks to be the best option for everybody. The midfielder’s Arsenal career looks to have stalled and there is little chance that it will get going again anytime soon.
A move to Newcastle would maybe be a good one for the midfielder. He would be moving to a club with passionate fans and it would give him the chance to become a hero in the north east.
If he stayed fit, Wilshere would have a decent stage and most likely regular football with the Magpies. Arsenal would also save the big wages the Gunners are paying the midfielder.
Jack Wilshere staying fit and performing at Arsenal would have been the ideal situation. However, unfortunately, it does not seem to be going that way and Wilshere looking set for the Arsenal exit.
