Arsene Wenger once again all but confirmed that Spanish striker Lucas Perez will not play a part in the forthcoming season after the former Deportivo La Coruna forward was left out of the squad for the Community Shield final against Chelsea.
Alexandre Lacazette led the line in attack from the kick-off whereas it was Olivier Giroud who got introduced in the second term with Lucas Perez failing to make it to the bench even.
And as the new season approaches, the Spanish striker is working diligently on finding the new club for himself in order to get his career back on track and get into the competition for places in the Spanish national team for the next year’s 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Despite his severely limited playing time at Arsenal, Lucas Perez is not short of suitors as the host of clubs from England and all over Europe appear to be keen to acquire his services.
Perez’s former club Deportivo La Coruna would be more than happy to welcome their star back, but the Spaniard could quite easily stay in the Premier League with Newcastle United believed to be leading the line for his signature.
The Spanish TV Galicia report that Magpies have taken the lead in the race to sign Lucas Perez from the Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce. Rafa Benitez is keen on his countryman and is believed to be willing to splash £13.5 million in order to bring Lucas Perez to St James’s Park.
Newcastle United are keen to bolster their options upfront as Rafa Benitez looks to add more firepower to his frontline currently led by Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Benitez wants to increase competition for places and is believed to be keen to wrap up the deal for the Arsenal striker before the Premier League campaign kicks off next weekend.
Arsenal begin their new Premier League season on Friday when Gunners play host to Leicester City.
Wenger’s men are priced at 9/20 to beat Foxes at the Emirates.
