Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny has aimed a shot at Alexis Sanchez after the star joined Manchester United. The comment was made following the Gunners’ semi-final win over Chelsea in the EFL Cup semi-final.
Arsenal were able to come back from an early goal from Eden Hazard to progress to the final of the EFL Cup. Nacho Monreal saw his header take a number of deflections before it found the back of the net, before Granit Xhaka poked home to win the game for the home side.
Arsenal will now get the chance to pick up the first available silverware of the season, but they must defeat the outstanding team of the season in the form of Manchester City before they can lift the trophy.
Impressively, Arsenal managed to win the game without the help of Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean was the driving force for the London side before he departed for Manchester United, and his transfer saw many question how the Gunners would cope without him.
However, they had enough to push past Chelsea on Wednesday without the Chilean, and his departure has seen some claim that Arsenal could press on from this point on. Indeed, Sanchez’s former-teammate Mohamed Elneny has aimed a parting shot at the forward.
The Metro reported that Elneny posted on his Instagram account: “Now there are players fighting every minute for the logo and the fans #WeAreTheArsenal Wembley Time”.
Questions hung over Sanchez’s commitment in the build-up to his departure with some fans feeling that he was not playing at 100%. It seems as though Elneny was taking a dig at Sanchez, with Arsenal progressing to the final of the EFL Cup.
