According to the reports from the Daily Mail, Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil could sign a new deal in north London if he reallocated the number ten shirt. However, Jack Wilshere currently wears the shirt, while Ozil’s shirt number is 11.
However, Wilshere is out of contract in the summer and reportedly has caught Ozil’s attention. It seems a strange demand from a player that has exactly pulled up any trees in recent months for the Gunners.
Arsenal set to offer Ozil a new deal
As the world and the dog now know, Mesut Ozil is out of contract next summer. The German international will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January.
The report claims that Arsenal are set to offer Ozil a new deal in a bid to keep the playmaker and not lose him for nothing next summer. Ozil is reportedly looking for £300,000 per-week to stay at the north London club.
Ozil has already reportedly turned down numerous offers of new deals at Arsenal. It now seems almost inevitable he will leave the club in either January or the summer. I doubt just a shirt number would see the German change his mind, would it? That just sounds completely ludicrous.
Looks set to stay beyond January
Mesut Ozil has been linked with a move away from the north London club in January. However, he is now odds of 1/ 4 to stay with Arsenal beyond the winter transfer window.
No doubt, the number of options available to the German would be far bigger next summer. He could also gain bigger wages and signing-on fee just by the fact that any club looking to sign him would not need to pay a transfer fee for him.
I cannot see him signing a new deal
Mesut Ozil cannot claim to have been a massive success at Arsenal. Gunners fans have seen the good, the bad and the ugly of the German attacking midfielder during his career at the Emirates Stadium.
Ozil seems to have already made his mind up about what his next move will be. That is unlikely to be signing a new contract. It is likely seeing out his contract with the North London club and then joins a new club in January.
Arsenal have allowed this situation to drag on and I really cannot see the German committing his future to the north London club.
Is there any chance of Mesut Ozil signing a new deal at Arsenal?
