Arsenal fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday as Jose Mourinho got one over on his rival manager Arsene Wenger. Arsenal were the better side but were punished for their profligacy, and Mesut Ozil has given his verdict on the game.
Manchester United left the Emirates Stadium with all three points after a 3-1 win, but, on the balance of play, it was undeserved. Of course, some might argue that Arsenal’s inability to take their chances meant that they themselves did not deserve to win, with David de Gea in inspired form as he almost singlehandedly kept the opposition out.
In the end, it was three points dropped for Arsenal, who have fallen into fifth-place, a point behind Liverpool in fourth. While the defeat is a disappointing one, it is not as damaging as it could have been, with the Gunners still well in with a chance of taking a Champions League spot, while Arsene Wenger’s men can also be proud of how well they played.
Indeed, Arsenal star Mesut Ozil lamented their missed chances and claimed they played better than their opponents. The Express reported that Ozil said on social media: “The day after I’m still very unhappy about the result. We played good football and dominated the match, but wasted too many chances”.
Many will agree with Ozil’s summation of the game, with the German all too aware that thye had to be more clinical in front of goal. If Arsenal can maintain their good form on the pitch and add a scoring touch, then they will surely embark upon a long run of wins.
