It’s not all good today for the Gunners, and despite the fact that most of Arsenal’s players are reaching full fitness, German giant Per Mertesacker has nothing but bad news to share.
According to French manager Arsene Wenger the defender might not be able to take part in this year’s EURO championship as his injury is still a long way from coming to an end. Mertesacker is usually a first teamer for the national German side, but according to Wenger it’s going to be hard for the central defender to reach fitness until the summer.
“I believe Per will be out for the rest of the season. There are only six weeks to go (this season), so I don’t think he’ll be sharp enough to come back and play.
“He would need to train and get back to full fitness.”
Per got injured in the game against Sunderland when he picked up a fracture at his ankle. He was immediately sent to surgery in Germany, but although the giant told people on his Twitter page that things are progressing good, Wenger doesn’t seem to think he’ll be back any time soon.
Regardless of Mertesacker’s form, Arsenal might still have a player in the national German side if the transfer of Lukas Podolski will be a successful one.
