According to the Daily Star, Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho could make a summer move for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.
The Wales midfielder will have just 12 months left on his contract this summer. The Gunners hierarchy are reportedly looking to avoid another contract wrangle resulting in losing a player for less than his actual value, like the Alexis Sanchez situation in January.
Ramsey likely to want a wage rise
The clubs reluctance to get into another Sanchez situation could lead to selling the star in the summer, rather than losing him for absolutely nothing the following summer.
Reportedly, contract negotiations between Arsenal and Ramsey are set to take place at the end of the current season.
To sign a new deal Ramsey is likely to want a pay rise, especially after Germany international Mesut Ozil received a big pay rise when signing a new deal with the Gunners earlier this year.
United keen to sign Ramsey as an alternative to Paul Pogba
According to the report, United boss Jose Mourinho sees Ramsey as a prospective alternative to highly-rated midfielder Paul Pogba. The former Juventus star has struggled for fitness and form this season at Old Trafford.
In fact, he has been left out of the United starting line-up on a number of occasions of late, as Mourinho looks to find a better balance in his team. The Portuguese boss is believed to be a fan of the 27-year-old Ramsey and sees him as the box-to-box midfielder his team needs to improve.
Ramsey chose to join Arsenal ahead of Manchester United in 2008, with his reasons reportedly being that youngsters got a chance at Arsenal and that Arsene Wenger helped young players develop.
United are likely to have competition for Ramsey signature, if he becomes available in the summer, with Chelsea also said to be monitoring the midfielder’s situation.
Arsenal needs Champions League football
While Aaron Ramsey may not be the best player at Arsenal, most Gunners players like the Welshman will be wondering what the future holds for the north London club. Arsene Wenger’s side needs Champions League football to keep their best players.
The Gunners most obvious route into Europe’s elite competition is by winning the Europa League, which they are currently odds of 3/1 to win.
For me, Aaron Ramsey has been highly inconsistent during his Arsenal career. If he could produce on a regular basis then the Gunners should not sell the midfielder, but as it is, I do believe Arsenal should consider selling the Welshman.
Should Arsenal sell Aaron Ramsey this summer?
