The Premier League returns with a north London derby on Saturday as Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal host Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium, and Les Ferdinand has sent the visitors a warning ahead of the game.
Manchester City cut Arsenal’s faint title hopes to ribbons in the last round of Premier League games as Pep Guardiola’s side beat the London team 3-1.
Goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio aguero and Gabriel Jesus were enough to see City to the win, and they actually spared Arsenal’s blushes on the day with some uncharacteristically wayward finishing.
The defeat means that Arsenal are now 12 points short of City at the top, while they are also three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. Their weekend was made even worse by Liverpool’s win over West Ham, with Jurgen Klopp’s men pushing the Gunners down into sixth.
Needless to say, Arsenal have not been in the most consistent of form lately, and they are in desperate need of a win. However, their next opponents are their rivals Tottenham, who are in fine form this season.
While the visitors will be confident of winning the game as they have been tagged as the favourites, Les Ferdinand has sent a warning out to Spurs. He told Sky Sports: “I think you’d have to make Spurs favourites at the moment. But everyone knows when you go into a derby game, form goes out of the window. It’s what it means to the players. The atmosphere is always electric, it’s good”.
Arsenal’s game with Tottenham is a huge chance to show that they are a team that can turn up in the biggest games, but another loss will see even more pressure pile up on the Gunners.
