As expected on transfer deadline day, stories involving Arsenal players are doing the rounds. One of the main stories surrounds Chilean star Alexis Sanchez. According to Sky Sports, the Gunners are not interested in selling the former Barcelona star to Manchester City in a cash only deal.
Reports suggest that Arsenal were interested in doing a deal with the Citizens that involved England international winger Raheem Sterling. However, the noises coming out of Manchester suggest that City boss Pep Guardiola is unwilling to allow the former Liverpool star to leave before the deadline.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated all along that Sanchez would not leave north London before the deadline. Despite the Chilean seemingly being unhappy at the club, he will stay at the club beyond the current transfer window.
The Gunners will then likely lose the forward on a free transfer next summer, as Sanchez’s contract expires next summer and the forward has rejected numerous offers of new deals from the club.
Sky Sports are also reporting that Arsenal have rejected a bid of around £20million for versatile defender Calum Chambers. The former Southampton star impressed at Middlesbrough on loan last season.
However, he seems unlikely to see much first-team action, as the Gunners have a plethora of defensive options available to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. The defender is highly rated and maybe the club from north London do not want to allow the youngster to leave on a permanent basis.
A number of other Arsenal players are reportedly interesting other clubs on deadline. Centre-back Shkodran Mustafi had previously been linked with a move to Inter Milan. The German was left out of the Gunners starting line-up for the 4-0 hammering at Liverpool last weekend.
The decision to leave the German out of the team led to increased speculation over the defenders future. However, Mustafi now looks set to stay at the north London club.
The likes of full-back Mathieu Debuchy and winger Joel Campbell are also surplus to requirements. Both players could make late moves, with Arsenal willing to allow the pair to leave before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.
Everton have made enquiries about taking Spanish striker Lucas Perez on a season-long. However, the Gunners are reluctant to allow the Spaniard to join a club that could be a top-six. They would prefer Perez to move back to Spain with Deportivo La Coruna.
It seems Thursday’s transfer deadline could be very busy, but it seems unlikely that the Gunners will bring in any fresh signings.
