According to the Sunday Express, Italian champions Juventus are targeting Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez as a replacement for Spanish striker Alvaro Morata, who returned to former-club Real Madrid earlier this week.
Ironically Morata had been linked with a move to North London, but the striker has now vowed to fight for his place in the Spanish capital.
Juventus wanting Alexis Sanchez as Morata replacement
It is not surprising that Alexis Sanchez is being targeted by Juve. He made his name in Italy with Udinese and has impressed in his two seasons at Arsenal. His ability to play in a number of positions and energy have been two of the biggest facets of his game with the Gunners.
Sanchez would no doubt be a good signing for the Italian champions, but he is not a player in the same mould as Morata.
Also Morata was never really a regular starter for the Bianconeri, but a number of encouraging performances last season led to Real Madrid activating a £23million clause in his contract. It remains to be seen if Morata gets his wish and is given a chance in Los Blancos’ first team next season.
Real were believed to have only activated the clause in order to sell the striker on at a massive profit, but it seems that Morata believes he has a chance of displacing one of Real’s big forward stars next season.
Sanchez is vital for Arsenal
Alexis Sanchez was nowhere near his best last season and it was largely attributed to his participation at the Copa America.
The forward is again away with Chile at the Copa, but the tournament started slightly earlier this summer, which will give the players more time to recuperate ahead of the European seasons kicking off.
Despite his struggles last season, Sanchez is one of the most vital players in the Arsenal squad. He provides the match-winning ability that not many other players provide for the Gunners. Alongside Mesut Ozil he is the Gunners most important attacking player.
Sanchez will stay at Arsenal this summer
It seems highly unlikely that Arsenal will allow the Chile international to leave this summer because of his importance to the team. The Gunners are likely to be looking to strengthen their attack this summer and not weaken it.
If Arsenal are to have any chance of winning the Premier League then they need to build their team around players like Sanchez next season.
