The January transfer window has been a success for Arsenal

The January transfer window has closed and all Arsenal’s deals are done. For me, the January transfer window has been a success for the Gunners. Too many players at the club were complacent, unhappy or just good enough.

Instead of those aforementioned players, Arsenal have brought in two players that under the right conditions could be key players for the club.

Walcott, Sanchez and Giroud sold

The fact that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has decided to allow Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud leave the club in January shows that the veteran Frenchman is determined to overhaul the team.

Walcott was an explosive player when on his game. However, his development seemed to have stalled in north London. He was not a bad player, but maybe Wenger allowed him to be too comfortable. He has made a bright start to his Everton career and most Arsenal fans will wish him good luck on Merseyside.

Olivier Giroud is a player that has been fazed out of the Arsenal team in the last few seasons. Last season he was not first-choice striker and this season he was reduced to making cameos from the bench. The French striker moving on was not a major shock. However, his destination of Chelsea was maybe slightly surprising.

Alexis Sanchez had wanted to leave Arsenal for a long time, or so his demeanour suggested on a regular basis. His performances this season had been nowhere like his performances in previous seasons. The Gunners getting the deal they did for a player out of contract in the summer was good business.

New arrivals will add a new dimension to the Gunners attack

New signings striker Pierre-Emerick and attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will add a new dimension to the Arsenal attack. Both players have played at the highest level and delivered on a regular basis for German giants Dortmund.

Mkhitaryan endured mixed fortunes at Manchester United. However, you get the impression that he will probably fit into the Arsenal team better than he did at Old Trafford.

Aubameyang was a prolific goalscorer in the Bundesliga. Arsenal fans will hope that he can continue to thrive at the north London club. The prospect of Arsene Wenger picking from Alexander Lacazette, Mesut Ozil, Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan is certain a good one.

Overall, surely this has to be considered a successful window for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal. Let us hope that the signing have the desired effect on the Gunners season.
