Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Aaron Ramsey will be key for Arsenal against Manchester City if the Welsh international can prove his fitness before the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Arsenal fell to an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Ostersunds on Thursday as they limped through to the next stage of the Europa League.
The Gunners held a 3-0 advantage after the first-leg in Sweden, but this lead was almost entirely wiped out after a very quick start from Ostersunds. Two goals inside the first-half had their hosts on the rope before Sead Kolasinac scored to make it 4-2 on aggregate.
Arsene Wenger will have been hugely pleased to see his side progress to the next stage of the Europa League, but the loss has seen criticism of the side, and rightly so.
However, they must now put the defeat out of their mind as they face a massive game against Manchester City at the weekend. The Carabao Cup final offers the first silverware of the season, and the Gunners will be desperate to be the side lifting the cup.
The two teams boast some world-class talent, but Manchester City are the favourites following a scintillating season so far. While Pep Guardiola’s outfit are the men to beat, Jamie Redknapp believes that Aaron Ramsey could hold the key to an Arsenal triumph.
Jamie Redknapp wrote for Sky Sports: “I think Aaron Ramsey will be key if he’s fit. He’s a big-game player, he has scored in cup finals and he gives them legs in midfield”.
Jack Wilshere was roundly criticised for his below-par performance against Ostersunds and Arsenal cannot afford to lose the battle in midfield, with Kevin De Bruyne able to hurt a team for the middle.
Ramsey’s all action approach may be the way to combat the Belgian, with every single Arsenal player needed to be on top form if they are to defeat City.
