Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted that he feels he is better now after helping the London side to a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace, with the Englishman an integral part of the Gunners’ midfield.
Arsenal’s win over Palace was a hugely important one and it underlined the fact that they are improving as a side. Their ability to regroup after being pegged back to 1-1, and the fact they were able to see the game out at 3-2 displays the backbone many have accused them of lacking has been strengthened recently.
The victory has seen Arsene Wenger’s men rise up to sixth in the table with 37 points. They are now just a single point behind Liverpool in fourth, meaning a Champions League place is within their grasp.
Of course, their season will be seen as a failure as they have fallen so far behind Manchester City at the top. The only solace they can take from this is the fact that City’s rise has caught every other side cold, with their closest competitors Manchester United 15 points behind them.
A particular positive from the current season could be the return of Jack Wilshere though. The midfielder has been injured so often that many questioned whether he could break back into the team. However, he has slotted into a partnership with Granit Xhaka and he has looked very good.
On his own form, Wilshere said: “It’s difficult to say, I was happy with my form last year, I’m probably better now, I feel better, I feel fitter, I’m getting better each game and I am enjoying my football. Another game, another three points I am happy”.
Both Arsenal and England fans will be hugely relieved to see the player back after such a torrid spell due to injuries. They can only hope that an extended stay in the team will help him to continually improve and earn his place back in the side.
