According to Tuttosport via talkSPORT, Inter Milan are interested in signing Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez and could make an approach in the January transfer window.
Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with the 22-year-old, whose contract expires from 2018, although it’s unknown if they will make an approach in the coming months.
Gimenez made just 12 La Liga starts for Atleti last season, suffering from stiff competition in the defence from the likes of Stefan Savic and Diego Godin. He’s featured twice in the league this campaign already, but his long-term future is uncertain given he’s yet to put pen to paper on a new contract.
Inter are hoping to take advantage, given how keen they are to bolster their own backline. The Serie A giants were targeting Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi on deadline day, but the Gunners failed to secure a replacement for the German international so the deal didn’t go through, forcing Inter to look elsewhere.
Arsenal may be in the market for a defender, with Per Mertesacker retiring next summer, Laurent Koscielny struggling with muscle injuries and Mustafi having asked to leave just days ago.
Manchester United were linked with Gimenez this summer but have since brought in Andreas Lindelof to join Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, meaning they may not be in the market for another centre-back.
