Arsenal’s defensive duo Rob Holding and Calum Chambers have both been called up by England manager Aidy Bothroyd for the U21 Championships in Poland. The full list of names can be read here.
Holding, signed from Bolton for £2m last summer, spent a large part of his debut season out of the Arsenal first-team but was recalled successfully with a series of impressive performances before the campaign came to a close.
The 21-year-old, who has made five appearances for the England U21 team, ended up making nine Premier League starts for the Gunners, winning seven, drawing one and losing one. His form late-season even led to him signing a new deal at the club.
Chambers, who has represented the England U21s on 18 occasions, spent the season on loan at Middlesbrough, getting regular first-team football prior to their relegation. He made 25 appearances for the North-East club, scoring twice, and helped them pick up points to the likes of Manchester City twice and Everton.
The two Arsenal defenders join a strong England team where the Three Lions have stiff competition to lift the trophy. Bothroyd’s England U21 side are 9/1 to win the U21 Championships this summer, with Germany, Spain and Portugal among the favourites.
