Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s availability now the big question

Posted on January 22, 2018 by Milos Markovic

It’s not the question of will the Henrikh Mkhitaryan deal go through but rather when it will happen as the Manchester United man is already in London to conclude his switch to Arsenal.

The 29-year-old is leaving Old Trafford after only a year and a half at Old Trafford following a mixed spell which saw him display flashes of Borussia Dortmund brilliance.

Having fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho, Mkhitaryan is turning a clean slate at the Emirates with Arsenal planning for life without Alexis Sanchez who – by the looks of it – will be replaced by not one but two world-class signings should Wenger succeed in grabbing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as well.

And with the big question out of the way regarding Mkhitaryan, Arsenal fans are now asking themselves when the Armenia international will make his Gunners debut.

Arsenal take on Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium in a Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Wednesday. The two sides played a goalless stalemate at Stamford Bridge last time out and are ready to complete a three-match month of January during the week.

Supporters hoping that Mkhitaryan could be available for the Wednesday match will have to wait for a bit longer to see him in action though even if a deal goes through on Monday (or Tuesday). Namely, Mkhitaryan is cup tied as he featured for United in this competition.

Mkhitaryan also played for Manchester United in the Champions League this season but this does not mean he will be unable to play for Gunners internationally knowing that Arsenal are in a different European competition – which rules out Aubameyang however, knowing that Dortmund are also competing in the Europa League.

As for the Premier League, the Armenia star is expected to be available for the Swansea City match next week while his home debut could come against Everton on the first weekend of February.
