The likes of Sky Sports are reporting that Manchester United are close to signing Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez in a deal worth £35million. However, there is also the possibility of the Red Devils using Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of the deal.
The Armenian international playmaker would be a good addition to the Gunners squad, especially as the club from north London could have lost Sanchez on a free in the summer.
Mkhitaryan out of favour at United
Mkhitaryan has fallen out of favour at Manchester United. The playmaker struggled to make an impression last season in his debut campaign with the Red Devils after his big money move in the summer of 2016.
He started the season in good form, as the Red Devils looked set to enjoy a strong campaign, providing assists and goals in the Premier League. He looked set to become a crucial player in the United team.
However, the playmaker’s form dipped and boss Jose Mourinho decided to leave him out of not only his starting line-up but also his squad at one point this season.
The Portuguese boss has not been able to get the best out of the former Dortmund star. Maybe Arsene Wenger could help Mkhitaryan produce his best form in the Premier League.
Arsene Wenger a fan of the playmaker
The former-Dortmund star is undoubtedly talented and with the right boss seems to shine. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger reportedly tried to sign Mkhitaryan prior to his move to Old Trafford.
Mkhitaryan comes across as the sort of player that the veteran French boss can help to thrive. He is a talented and clever attacking midfielder, who is highly versatile. For me, Mkhitaryan could turn out to be a very good signing for Arsenal and his creativity would benefit the team enormously.
Arsenal major outsiders for the Champions League
The Gunners are now major outsiders for the Champions League spots at odds of 9/2 after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth.
The transfer activities of the winter transfer window will do much to determine Arsenal’s hope of catching the top-four. Losing Alexis Sanchez may not be such a blow, as it has got to the point where the Chilean is not performing at his best and some of his teammates seem to be against the former Barcelona star.
Signing Mkhitaryan in the deal for Sanchez may well prove a shrewd bit of business for the Gunners, who have handled transfers poorly in recent years.
Would Henrikh Mkhitaryan be a good signing for Arsenal?
