Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted that he is hugely excited at the prospect of renewing his partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the two had spent a very successful period together at Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal were able to return to form in emphatic style as they hammered Everton in a 5-1 win. Aaron Ramsey bagged a hat-trick while Laurent Koscielny and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rounded off the scoring.
The only criticism of the Gunners is the fact they did not score more goals as they saw a number of chances pass them by. However, Arsene Wenger will not be particularly concerned by this as the victory was about as consummate as it gets.
In the table, Arsenal have been able to cut the gap between themselves and Tottenham to just four points, meaning that if they defeat Spurs in their derby this weekend then the gap will be just a single point. However, if they are to lose then they will be seven points short of Tottenham with their Champions League challenge all but over.
Their last game was the perfect way for the Gunners to prepare for their derby game, and the relationship between Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang could be one that decides the game. On their partnership, Mkhitaryan told Sky Sports: “I think it could only be in a dream that we could join another club other than Dortmund but I am very happy for that. I have known him very well, he is one of my best friends and the best team-mate I have ever had. I am very happy to have him here and I think all the fans are happy to see him in an Arsenal shirt”.
“What can I say? I love playing with him. I can understand him from one step and hopefully for the next games we are going to achieve more”.
The pair are likely to be unleashed against Tottenham on Saturday as they look to outshine Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen. With a glut of outstanding attacking talent on show, this could be one of the most entertaining London derbies for years.
