Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday as Arsene Wenger got one over on Mauricio Pochettino at the Emirates Stadium. Following the win, Hector Bellerin has called on his teammates to replicate the intensity they showed against Spurs every week.
It was not the game many thought that they would see on Saturday as Arsenal easily beat their in-form opponents. Tottenham came into the contest as favourites, but they struggled to create anything on the day.
Indeed, the 2-0 scoreline did not flatter the Gunners, who could have scored more goals. However, the most important thing was the win, and they secured all three points through goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez.
The win means that Arsenal remain in sixth-place, but they are now just a single point behind Tottenham in fourth-place. In their hunt for Champions League football, their victory over their biggest rivals was a massive moment.
While they are still a long way off the top, 12 points in fact, they will feel that they are in a superb position to make the most of any slip-ups from those above them.
Following their big win, Hector Bellerin has called on his side to replicate the same intensity they showed against Tottenham as they look to become a more consistent team.
The defender told Arsenal’s official website: “That’s what we’re trying to do. ‘Sometimes, for different reasons, we haven’t been able to do it, but this is how we set the bar and show what potential we have”.
‘That’s what we’ve got to work hard to do every single week, week in, week out”.
It has always been a criticism of Arsenal that they will follow up a superb performance with a defeat. Wenger’s men must look to change this perception, and they can start to do so by beating Burnley in their next fixture.
