Arsenal continue their preseason with the Emirates Cup that will this season see Premier League giants play host to the likes of Benfica, Sevilla and RB Leipzig.
This year’s edition of the tournament will be the ninth in total. The tournament will take place at the Emirates Stadium over the forthcoming weekend with all four teams playing twice.
The Emirates Cup precedes the Community Shield match and comes as a perfect opportunity for Gunners to gear up for the match against Premier League champions on 6 August.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has received an important squad boost ahead of the tournament as his first-team trio is set to return to training. Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin have rejoined the rest of the squad following their extended summer vacations.
Chambers and Holding represented England in the European U21 Championship played earlier this summer, whereas Bellerin played for Spain at the same tournament.
Additionally, midfielder jack Wilshere returned to training with the rest of the first team following the club’s return to London from the preseason tour of Australia and China.
The England international midfielder was omitted from the team that travelled East as he failed to recover from a fracture he sustained towards the end of last season at Bournemouth. Wilshere remained in London where he worked individually to regain fitness and was yesterday pictured training with the rest of the squad.
The 25-year-old is coming off from a season-long loan spell at Bournemouth but could be set for departure once again as Arsenal appear to be open to proposals for their injury-prone star.
Having gone through almost entire season uninjured, Jack Wilshere managed to amass 29 outings in the Premier League last year and there is no shortage of interest for his services from clubs all over Europe.
Wilshere is said to be keen to stay in London, however, and could end up becoming another high-profile signing for Hammers who are doing a wonderful job in the summer transfer window.
