Having single-handedly won the winter transfer market with their wise and astute moves for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to compensate for the departure of Aleixs Sanchez – while at the same time extending with Mesut Ozil – Gunners are already making plans for summer.
According to reports coming from Daily Star, Arsenal have set their sights on the 22-year-old German starlet Max Meyer.
Schalke ace has been in impressive form this season, enjoying a slightly deeper role under boss Domenico Tedesco, although he can be deployed as an attacking midfielder and a forward as well.
The German international made 17 Bundesliga appearances this season, whereas he also added one in DFB Pokal.
Meyer’s current deal with Schalke is set to expire at the end of the season and the host of Europe’s top clubs have been alerted by his contract situation. Liverpool, Bayern Munich and AC Milan are thought to be in the running for Meyer although Arsene Wenger is convinced Gunners can join the race.
The French boss is relying on Mesut Ozil to play a key role in persuading his compatriot to choose London and make a switch to the Emirates this summer.
Schalke are not prepared to let their starlet leave after being forced to make piece with the fact Leon Goretzka is leaving the club and are already working on a new contract offer for the 24-year-old. Schalke CEO Christian Heidl admitted the Bundesliga side will try to keep the midfield star at the Veltins-Arena for a bit longer.
Max Meyer started his professional career at Schalke and has thus far amassed over 140 Bundesliga appearances for the club.
