Another disappointing campaign has come to an end, but Arsenal fans are hoping next season will be different as new era is set to start following the departure of long-serving manager Arsene Wenger.
Many believe that Manchester City assistant manager Mikel Arteta will be appointed as his successor, with even Pep Guardiola admitting he wouldn’t stand in Arteta’s way should he decide to return to the Emirates.
Somewhat of a squad overhaul definitely seems on the cards and we look at five players the new manager could recruit in the summer transfer window.
Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen)
The highly rated shot-stopper is believed to be leading the list of candidates for Petr Cech’s long-term successor as Head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is a big fan of the player. It is no secret that the Germany international is keen on leaving this summer and he reportedly has a £22 million release clause. With 233 Bundesliga appearances to his name, Bernd Leno seems like a very good option.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Borussia Dortmund)
The Greek defender is reportedly looking to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer and he has been linked with quite a few top clubs in the past. He is another player Sven Mislintat knows well from his time in Germany, and another one whose experience could prove an asset at the Emirates. Following the serious injury Laurent Koscielny picked up recently, the Gunners are not spoilt for options at the back and they could really use a player like Sokratis (chances are pundits will quickly give up trying to pronounce his last name).
Max Meyer (Schalke)
The 22-year-old has already decided to leave Schalke when his contract expires in June and he’s got top European clubs lining up with offers at the moment. Despite his fragile age, Meyer already has a considerable experience at senior level and he could be a very good option for the middle of the park at the time when Aaron Ramsey is being linked with a summer exit.
Jean-Michael Seri (Nice)
The player who almost joined Barcelona a year ago is believed to be high on Arsenal’s wish list, and we certainly hope the Gunners will eventually secure his services. One of the star performers of the 2016/2017 Ligue 1 campaign has somewhat struggled for form this season having been disappointed at not being sold, but once he completes a big club move (hopefully to Arsenal), we expect him to shine bright like a diamond.
Would you like to see any of these players join Arsenal this summer? Let us know.
