Reports coming from the Spanish news outlet Marca suggest that Arsene Wenger has set his sights on Eibar star Florian Lejeune.
The Gunners have made an enquiry of the availability of the 26-year-old centre-back who has been closely followed by other Premier League sides as well.
Namely, Arsenal’s fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be in the hunt for Lejeune’s signature, whereas newly-promoted Newcastle United are also keen.
It is the Magpies in fact who have made the first move for the French defender as Rafa Benitez has agreed to pay £8.75 million in order to activate the release clause in his contract with Eibar.
Arsenal and Tottenham are keeping a close eye on the current situation and are believed to be keen to pounce at the right occasion.
Eibar star defender is no stranger to English football.
The Frenchman was officially a Manchester City member for a year even though he failed to register a single appearance for the Citizens. He spent the entire 2015/16 season on loan at Girona after which he was let loose by the Premier League side and signed a four-year deal with Eibar.
Lejeune made 37 La Liga and Copa del Rey appearances for the Basque side, regularly impressing in the heart of defence.
Arsene Wenger is believed to be in the market for a defender despite signing left-back Sead Kolasinac from Schalke.
Kolasinac is most comfortable at wing-back position and his arrival is enough of a suggestion that Arsene Wenger could continue with his three-man defence line next season.
