Enrique and Allegri the favourites for the Arsenal job

Posted on May 07, 2018 by David Nugent

Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique and current Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri are the favourites to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, according to Sky Sports.

Wenger enjoyed a good send-off in his last home game of the season on Sunday, as the Gunners hammered Burnley. The clubs hierarchy has no doubt made moves behind the scenes to seek a quality replacement for Wenger.

Both winners at the top level

Enrique and Allegri are both proven winners at the top level of football. Barcelona won virtually every club trophy under Enrique, while Juventus have continued to dominate Serie A under Allegri. The Bianconeri also always do well in the Champions League.

I doubt many Arsenal fans would turn their noses up at either appointment. Both bosses have also produced teams that play very good football. Any boss appointed will have to buy into the Gunners football philosophy instilled by Wenger himself.

Enrique is now ready to return to football after a sabbatical from football after leaving Barcelona last summer. Chelsea are also reportedly interested in appointing the Spaniard.

Allegri is current favourite to be next Gunners boss at 7/4, while the likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Liverpool assistant boss Zeljko Buvac are shorter odds than Enrique.

Arsenal need real experience and acumen

The likes Enrique and Allegri offer the Gunners experience and managerial acumen. They have the sort of experience needed to turn things around in north London.

The link with Liverpool assistant manager Buvac is a strange one, as the 56-year-old has been an assistant to Jurgen Klopp for 17 years. The step up to being a boss is always going to be a difficult one.

It seems highly unlikely his first job would be with such a high-profile club, who needs a major overhaul in certain departments.

A fresh mentality

With Wenger finally leaving, this summer promises to be an exciting one. The new boss will bring in new ideas and hopefully a fresh mentality. For too long the players have been given an easy ride by the coaching staff.

A new boss will also bring in new players. Hopefully, these new players will be winners and not players just happy to be also-rans. I have feeling that there will be big changes ahead of next season on the playing staff. There needs to be if the Gunners are to have any chance getting back to the top table of English football.

Who should be the next Arsenal boss?

There wont be any big changes in playing staff maybe one or two additions. Wenger leaves behind a squad with lots of excellent young talent especially in defence and a seriously potent attack. The squad just needs a swift boot up the ass to shake them awake. I also like how Patrick Vieira is running NYCFC. Lots of attacking and possession, pressing high, tight backline, lots of width as well… With better players (as arsenal have) he’d be amazing.
