Former-Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has questioned the upturn in form of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, as he believes the pair have their eyes set on the transfer window to come.
Arsenal were incredibly unfortunate not to win a thrilling Premier League battle with Machester United at the weekend as the Gunners went down 3-1. Despite losing the game, the hosts created a glut of chances, but were ultimately thwarted by the brilliance of David de Gea, who once again underlined his credentials as the best goalkeeper in the world.
The defeat has left Arsenal in fifth-place in the league, a point behind fourth-place Liverpool. Of course, there are a huge number of games still to play, but Arsene Wenger will be disappointed to see his side slip out of the Champions League places following a very good run of form.
Indeed, that run has coincided with the rejuvenation of both Sanchez and Ozil. The pair have constantly been linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer, with some even questioning whether Arsenal will finish the season with them.
This transfer speculation has caused former-Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit to question why the players have esuddnely rediscovered their form. He told Paddy Power: “Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are coming back to the way they should be playing for Arsene Wenger. It’s great news for Arsenal that they’ve returned to form, but is that just because the transfer window is around the corner?”
“Who knows if they still want to leave? I really hope they remain at the club but, if they do, they need to show the same commitment to help Arsenal to a Champions League spot”.
While the future of the two remains in doubt, Petit clearly wants the pair to remian at Arsenal for as long as they can, and if the Gunners can keep them this season, then they stand a far better chance of returning to the Champions League.
