Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata is reportedly close to signing for Arsenal, according to respected pundit Guillem Balague.
‘Morata has agreed to join Arsenal IF, I repeat IF, I insist IF, clubs agree fee. He will push for Madrid to accept Arsenal’s offer.’ – he said on Twitter.
The young Spaniard has been linked with a move to Arsenal all season, but no progress has been made on the initial interest shown from the Gunners.
Morata, 21, has scored three goals in 13 league appearances this season for the senior side. He bagged an impressive 12 goals in 18 last campaign for the reserve outfit in the second division.
Signed for the La Liga runners-up in 2008, the Spanish U21 international was thought to have a bright future ahead of him, but being 21 now means he’s in desperate need for regular first-team football, and it’s believed he’s very keen to forge a career in the Premier League under Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
In league news, the Gunners continue their pursuit of a first Premier League in 10 years when they travel to the Britannia to face Stoke City in the 1st of March. Wenger’s men are 8/13 to take all three points against the Potters. Victory against Mark Hughes’ men could see Arsenal go top of the table if 1st-placed Chelsea drop points in their next league game away to strugglers Fulham.
