Verdict: England Win

Best Odds: 11/10

Bookmakers: Coral

On Tuesday night, Colombia and England go head-to-head for a place in the last 16 of the World Cup. Colombia made the last eight last time out, but the Three Lions have not played in the World Cup quarter-final since 2006. It is a massive game for both teams.

Colombia

Colombia recovered from a defeat in their opening group games to defeat Poland and Senegal top Group H. The highly-rated South American team have been on a run of unconvincing form of late, as they failed to win any of their three warm-up games heading into Russia 2018.

There are few things that satisfy 90% of football fans but seeing big teams fall in international tournaments in favour of unfancied nations certainly falls into that category. As we continue on through the Round of 16, which has already given us a phenomenal selection of games, it’ll be interesting to see how some of these countries navigate their way through the knockouts. One game, in particular, that intrigues us is the upcoming showdown between Sweden and Switzerland.

The round of 16 of the ongoing World Cup in Russia has certainly kicked off in style, with two arguably best players in the world already out of the tournament as Lionel Messi’s Argentina bowed out to France while Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t inspire Portugal to get past Uruguay.

France made it through to the knockout stages with very little fuss, beating Australia and Peru, while drawing with Denmark in their final group game. However, there is a sense that Didier Deschamps team are still performing within themselves in Russia.

We’ve finally arrived at the knockout stages for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and so far, the tournament has lived up to the hype. We’ve seen several high profile nations crash out at the group stage, and on top of that, we’ve seen a parade of last minute goals and unbelievable matches. Now, however, we’re into a straight knockout format as 16 teams battle it out to become world champions. Two of those teams are Spain and Russia, who have certainly provided us with some entertaining games in their respective groups.

Prediction: Portugal win

Best Odds: 2/1

You never quite know what the World Cup is going to throw up in terms of shocks and surprises, but if you’d have told people that this would be the A1 vs B2 match for the Round of 16, they probably wouldn’t have been all too surprised. Uruguay and Portugal are tenured veterans at this point and they know what it takes to progress into the knockout stages, with their elite forward leading the way. They’ll both be oozing with confidence, which could make for an incredibly fun encounter.

Senegal vs Colombia is set to be one of the most interesting games of the third round of the World Cup group stages, as it’s a clash of teams not far apart in terms of quality that’s set to directly decide which team goes on from group H and which one goes home.

After the first two rounds, Japan and Senegal share the top spot with four points each, and Colombia sits third with one less. Poland are at the bottom, without any points or a chance to stay in the tournament after they encounter with Japan.
