Rob Holding impressing for Arsenal in Shkodran Mustafi’s absence 1

Posted on April 24, 2017 by Crippy Cooke

Arsenal defender Rob Holding once again impressed in a three-man backline against Manchester City as the Gunners reached the FA Cup final. The former Bolton Wanderers centre-back has been on the periphery at Arsenal all season, but was brought to the fore in a new system and has taken to it immediately.

Holding has made just four Premier League appearances this season, half of them coming in the last week, and he’s shown his manager that he deserves to be in and around the first-team in 2017/18. The 21-year-old was signed as a long-term replacement for the likes of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in 2016 but may be in contention for a starting place next season.

Wenger still undecided who’s Arsenal’s first-choice centre-forward 1

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud played 82 minutes in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final win against Manchester City but was largely ineffective at Wembley as his playing style didn’t fit the Gunners’ approach. The French international was utilised as the out-ball for Arsenal but didn’t have the pace to break the high City defence and was instead involved in aerial duels with Nicolas Otamendi.

Giroud failed to get in behind the Manchester City defence as a lack of any real athleticism, and chances were few and far between on the day. The former Montpellier man had two shots all game, completing just one pass every six minutes on average, and his withdrawal before extra time was expected earlier than it came.

Some encouraging transfer reports are coming from Turkey in relation to Arsenal’s long-term target Arda Turan.

The Turkish playmaker is reportedly set to be offloaded by Barcelona in what is expected to be a summer overhaul at the Spanish club and the Gunners are prepared to take advantage of such a development.

The Catalans have been kicked out of the Champions League quarterfinals at the hands of Juventus and are heading toward what is likely to become a rather disappointing closure to the season.

Bad news for Arsenal as Jack Wilshere suffers broken leg 0

Is Wilshere’s Arsenal career coming to an end?

Jack Wilshere’s Premier League season is over as Bournemouth midfielder sustained a broken leg against Tottenham.

On loan from Arsenal, the England international has been doing rather well in an injury-free spell at Bournemouth over the course of the season, making 27 appearances for the Cherries, but his stay at Dean Court has been cut short as Wilshere is now expected to return to Arsenal to begin his rehabilitation process.

The 25-year-old midfielder is set for another lengthy lay-off for a similar injury he sustained just before the 2015/16 season, when a broken leg kept his out for the majority of the campaign.

Oxlade-Chamberlain admits Arsenal have been “slipping” recently 0

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was honest in his interview after the Gunners earned a narrow victory over relegation-threatened Middlesbrough on Monday night, admitting the players had let standards slip during their woeful run of form.

The Gunners had lost five of their last eight Premier League games ahead of the trip to the Riverside Stadium, recently suffering a 3-0 defeat away to Crystal Palace which has all but ended their chances of a top-four finish.

And after stopping the rot to Middlesbrough, Oxlade-Chamberlain revealed players haven’t been giving their all of late.

Sead Kolasinac’s father sheds light on Arsenal links 0

Arsenal fans were excited to learn that Arsenal have moved to the front row in the race for Sead Kolasinac this weekend.

Still, it turns out that Gunners are not the only club interested in the Bosnia and Herzegovina international as it emerged that Everton, among other clubs, are also interested.

Contrasting reports over the past couple of days appeared linking the player with both Premier League clubs and presenting his case as a done deal, but the new light has been shed on the entire situation by none other than Kolasinac’s father himself.

Arsenal’s record at the Riverside Stadium doesn’t make for good reading 0

Arsenal travel to the Riverside Stadium to face Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Monday evening, desperate for a win to boost their fledgling hopes of a top-four finish. With four consecutive defeats on the road, Arsenal come into their clash with Boro in poor form and don’t have the best record against the North-East outfit in recent head-to-heads.

(14/1/06) Arsenal 7-0 Middlesbrough

Arsenal injury update ahead of Middlesbrough clash 0

Posted on April 16, 2017 by Crippy Cooke

Arsenal could well have their first-choice shop-stopper and key centre-back back in the squad for Monday’s trip to the Riverside stadium. The Gunners lock horns with relegation-threated Middlesbrough in desperate need of a win, which may result in manager Arsene Wenger throwing in his first-team regulars sooner than he may have wanted.

As for the goalkeeper situation, Emiliano Martinez has been operating between the sticks for Arsenal in recent weeks with David Ospina out with a back injury and Petr Cech suffering from a calf strain. However, the latter cold be returning in time to line up against Boro, with Wenger saying: “I believe that we have a chance of getting Petr Cech back in the squad.”
