Borussia Dortmund are reportedly eyeing up Olivier Giroud as a possible replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the forward edges closer to a switch to Arsenal in the current transfer window.
Arsenal said goodbye to their best player last week as Alexis Sanchez sealed a move to Manchester United. The Chilean had been widely tipped to leave the club, but it seemed as though he would join Pep Guardiola and Manchester City instead. However, the forward has joined up with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United instead.
Theo Walcott has also left the club, joining Everton, and it has left Arsenal’s options up front limited. This has seen Arsene Wenger delve into the transfer market in search of a new striker, and it has been reported that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will likely join the club.
The Borussia Dortmund player has been linked with the Gunners for the last few days and it seems as though a move is edging closer as he arrived in London to finalise his deal.
However, any move will likely be predicated on Borussia Dortmund finding a suitable replacement for Aubameyang, and Sky Sports are reporting that Arsenal face losing one of their own players for the striker as they claimed: “Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Anthony Modeste are among the names being considered by Dortmund, who are looking to secure a signing before the Bundesliga transfer window closes at 5pm on Wednesday”.
Giroud has been a fine player for Arsenal in recent years and Wenger may not be keen to see the back of him. However, his hand may be forced, with Aubameyang currently one of the best strikers in the world, and a man that will surely improve the side.
