The future of Arsenal speedster Theo Walcott has been up for debate in recent days, but Arsene Wenger has said that the winger does have a future at the Premier League club, despite what reports have suggested.
Arsenal were downed by a savvy Manchester United side on Saturday as the league’s second-placed side left the Emirates with all three points.
The Gunners were by far and away the better side in the game as they created a huge amount of chances. However, David de Gea was in inspired form as he almost single-handedly kept the London side at bay.
The defeat has left Arsenal in fifth-place in the league following Liverpool’s win, with the Gunners a point off the Champions League places. It also means that Wenger’s men are a massive 15 points short of Manchester City.
The defeat saw speculation around transfer reignited, with a number of players linked with the London club, and more still supposedly allowed to leave, including Walcott, who has struggled to break into the team this season.
However, Wenger has rebuked these claims, as he told reporters: “Yes he has a future. He works very hard. He was sick a few weeks ago and after I didn’t change the squad. But overall in training he looks very sharp”.
Walcott’s game time this season has been curtailed massively, and he was tipped to leave in January. However, Wenger claims that Walcott’s future lies with the side.
