According to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger the Gunners can still win the Premier League title this season. The team from north London are currently a massive 13 points behind league leaders Chelsea.
To make matters worse the Gunners face a potentially trip to Merseyside to face fifth-place Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday evening.
Still have a title chance
Asked about Arsenal’s title chances Wenger said: “We have to focus on our next game,”
“We have a game in hand, things can change quickly but to do things like that (catch Chelsea).
“You need exceptional rhythm in your results. We also need Chelsea to fade as well. At the moment, I think it’s more important we focus on winning our games and focus on our next game rather than dreaming of coming back to Chelsea.”
Difficult game on Saturday
Arsenal have not been in the greatest of form of late and away from home in the Premier League they have won just one of their last five games. The Gunners have also suffered three defeats in their last three league games on their travels.
Wenger’s side do not have a bad record against the Merseysiders, having lost just two of their 11 games against the Reds in all competitions. Liverpool are not in great form either, but this is the sort of game Jurgen Klopp’s side usually raise their game in.
The Reds could leapfrog Arsenal in the table and the Gunners could find themselves out of the top four with a defeat in this clash. In fact, if Manchester United defeat Bournemouth in the early kick-off they could possible finish the weekend off in sixth place, which is evidence that the Gunners are not going to win the title.
Crucial to finish in the top four
Arsenal finished in the top four on an annual basis that seems like a fact of life now. However, here we are once again in March and Arsenal are in a fight for a top-four place. For Wenger to claim that the Gunners are still in the title race is just silly.
Like most seasons it is crucial for the team from north London to finish in the top four this season, as it may mean attracting a higher calibre of player and even boss in the summer if Wenger does leave the club. The title still possible I don’t think.
Does Arsenal still really have a chance of winning the title?
