Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is not going anywhere despite speculation surrounding his future returning. The Premier League stalwart signed a new contract in the summer, but this has not halted whispers regarding his future, with some sections of the support discontented after another tough season.
Arsenal are looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League as they visit Bournemouth on Sunday. Their hosts currently sit in 16th-place in the league with 21 points following a rocky start, and Arsene Wenger will feel that the three points are there for the taking.
The Gunners have been fairly good in the league, but they have still found themselves five points short of the Champions League places, and 23 points short of Manchester City at the top, meaning they are the same distance away from City as they are from bottom-club Swansea.
The London side also had to stomach an embarrassing loss to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup as they were dumped out of yet another competition. This has seen pressure rise on the team, with speculation surrounding Wenger’s future rife. Despite rumours that he may look to step down before the end of his contract, the manager rebuffed these claims, as The Sun reported that he said: “My contract clarifies my future. Did I ever walk away from a contract? Never. So why should I now?”.
“At the end of the day, if you give someone a contract for £20million, you have to make sure it will be paid. I have been here for 21 years and I am always committed to my contract. Every single decision I make is what is right for the club”.
Wenger would have been hoping that renewing his contract would bring better fortune to the club, but they are once again suffering in the league as the teams above them continue to improve. Arsenal on the other hand have stagnated, which has led some to claim it is time for a change at the club, with a new manager high up on some fan’s lists.
