Arsenal face BATE Borisov on Thursday evening in the Europa League, but that game is likely to come too soon for defender Shkodran Mustafi, with Arsene Wenger admitting the defender may be a doubt for their Premier League game with Southampton on Saturday.
Arsenal fell to a hugely disappointing defeat at the hands of Manchester United at the weekend as their impressive winning run was brought to an end.
David de Gea was the hero for the visitors as he made a string of brilliant saves to win the game for United. For Arsenal, it was a case of their own profligacy hurting them despite their superb creative display.
The defeat means that they have slipped down to fifth in the league with 28 points, one point short of Liverpool in fourth and the last Champions League spot. Despite the fact there are plenty of games still to go, Arsene Wenger will have been hugely disappointed to have lost in such a way.
Their defeat means that they must beat Southampton in their next game as they look to bounce back immediately. However, they may have to do so without defender Shkodran Mustafi, who is a doubt for the game.
Arsene Wenger said: “Everybody is available. There is a small problem with Mustafi from Saturday but everybody else looks alright. He’s got a little thigh problem, but it’s a small one. He could be available for Southampton”.
Wenger will want to have a full squad to choose from for the game, and Mustafi’s presence at the back has helped Arsenal to become more solid at the back recently. His absence could see the Gunners’ game with Southampton made far more difficult.
