Arsenal board of director appear to be readying a new contract offer for long-serving boss Arsene Wenger as the speculation linking the Frenchman with England job continue to mount.
The English FA have appointed Gareth Southgate their interim manager after Sam Allardyce was forced to leave his post after mere 67 days, but they have reportedly made the Arsenal boss their number one target to take over the reigns on permanent basis.
The national team chiefs had previously attempted to lure Arsene Wenger before making a move on Allardyce, but the Frenchman told them he wanted to finish the season at the Emirates.
After his side impressed at the start of the new season, English FA look set to launch a fresh assault on the Professor, but the Gunners bosses are determined to keep the long-serving manager at the club.
As a result, Arsenal will soon offer Wenger a new deal at the Emirates, with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season.
Considering that he is already earning around £8 million per campaign, the Frenchman cannot really expect a significant pay rise, but he is bound to appreciate the effort from the club board.
Gareth Southgate, Rafael Benitez, Eddie Howe and Alan Pardew are believed to be the other managers that are in the mix to take over from Sam Allardyce, so no wonder that Arsene Wenger is the number one favourite at the moment.
