Versatile German U21 international Matthias Ginter is reported to have attracted the interest of Arsenal this summer. His asking price is said to be around £5M.
The 19-year old, who plays for German Bundesliga side Freiburg, can be utilised as a defender and midfielder. He made 23 Bundesliga appearances this season – scoring once.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger regards Ginter as a promising young player, who could eventually fill a void as a holding-midfielder. After sending his own young defensive midfielder, Francis Conquelin, on a season-long loan to the German side, Wenger is hoping Freiburg will consider offers for the 19-year old.
While no official bid has been made, Ginter is said to be flattered with the interest in him, and admitted it would be difficult to say no should Arsenal make a formal approach for his services.
As the European transfer window is open, Freiburg are expecting to be inundated with offers for the highly-rated German midfielder, but will only sell him for the right price.
Ginter has made a name for himself this year, and is tipped to pick up his first cap for the German national team next season, which could make him an outside bet to make the squad for the World Cup. While highly unlikely, it’s certainly high praise for the youngster.
