The mood is low in the Arsenal camp after the side suffered a shock home defeat to Watford in Tuesday’s Premier League clash. But given their title-rivals Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool haven’t wholly punished the Gunners for their recent dropped points, the race for the Premier League crown still isn’t over.
Chelsea and Liverpool played out a stalemate at Anfield, while Tottenham Hotspur were also held to a draw. As a result, Arsenal have only an extra points deficit to make up at the top, rather than three as it could have been. It could also be argued they have missed an opportunity to make up ground, but the positive is that their slip-up hasn’t greatly changed the landscape of the top-four.
Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League table with 47 points from 23 games, having suffered their first defeat in six. The Londoners are nine points adrift of leaders Chelsea, level with second-placed Tottenham Hotspur and a point clear of fourth-placed Liverpool with 15 games to go.
Arsene Wenger’s men have Chelsea next in the division, and a win against the leaders certainly keeps them in the mix for the title. Anything less, however, would likely see Arsenal out of the race this season. Arsenal are 15/1 to win the Premier League title this season, but they need a near perfect finish to best Chelsea at the summit.
