Premier League giants Arsenal could soon be announcing the first signing of the summer transfer window as they are reportedly closing in on Borussia M’gladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Rheinische Post has suggested that an agreement is on the horizon after the Gunners submitted a £34 million offer for the Switzerland international, having previously had a £21.7m proposal rejected.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to wrap up the deal as soon as possible, with Xhaka set to join the Switzerland squad for the pre-Euro 2016 training camp.
With the likes of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all set to leave the club, the Professor was desperate to add a high-quality midfielder to his ranks and it appears he has found his man.
Xhaka is a modern defensive midfielder, who acts as deep-lying playmaker at times and he quickly established himself as one of the leading Bundesluga stars.
The 23-year-old was handed the captain’s armband at Borussia at the start of the current campaign in he in turn helped die Fohlen secure yet another Champions League qualification.
Xhaka stated a while back that he dreamed of playing in England, and it seems the dream is set to become a reality in the next few weeks.
After winning the Under-17 World Cup in 2009 and Under-19 European Championship two years later, the midfielder went on to nail down a regular starting berth in the senior Switzerland team and has so far earned 40 caps, scoring 6 goals.
Do you think he is a good signing for Arsenal?
