Transfer news might be the last thing Arsenal fans want to hear at the moment but we can’t run away from them, especially when they involve some rather tasty players such as Benfica starlet Andrija Zivkovic.
The 21-year-old Serbian winger continues to put in impressive displays for Portuguese champions this season as he hopes to land a regular first-team spot at Benfica.
Former Partizan star managed 12 Primeira Liga appearances thus far and saw the total of 720 minutes of action, including 90 minutes in a comprehensive 5-0 over Maritimo this weekend.
Zivkovic capped another of his fine displays this term with a beautiful goal to have numerous scouts watching him from the stands drooling.
The Sun reports Arsenal representatives were also in the stands, adding that Gunners are now prepared to step up their interest in the versatile winger. Zivkovic was this season used on the flanks but also tested as a creative midfielder which was the experiment he passed with flying colours.
The Portuguese champions are helping the Serbian develop into a well-rounded player who can grow into a valuable first-team member and there is no doubt that Benfica will look to hold on to Zivkovic for another couple of seasons.
Both Arsenal and Benfica are well aware that Zivkovic’s price is only going to go up after the 2018 FIFA World Cup where the in-form 21-year-old is expected to shine for Serbia and Gunners are now said to be ready to launch an attack to try and secure his signature before the season ends.
Wenger is keen to beat the opposition to Zivkovic’s signature, knowing that Manchester United are another club interested in signing the Serbian.
Old Trafford scouts were also spotted at the Estadio da Luz and Jose Mourinho is said to be a keen admirer of his talents.
Zivkovic is under contract with Benfica until 2021.
