According to a report from Sky Sports yesterday, Everton are in advanced talks to sign Bordeaux’s highly-rated young winger Malcom for an initial fee of around £30million-plus add-ons.
There have since been conflicting reports over the Toffees bid for the youngster. Some reports suggest that the Merseysiders are not interested, while others indicate that they could advance the deal with a meeting later today.
Malcom was linked with Arsenal
Last season the Brazilian starlet was linked with a big-money move to Arsenal. Reports France indicates that Bordeaux refused to sell the youngster in January, but told him that he could move this summer if the price is right.
If Arsenal did target the youngster in January, would it not be a good idea to renew their interest in their player now? He seems set for a move and the figures mooted are now unrealistic for today’s crazy transfer market.
Would add a new dimension to the team
Arsenal does already have the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in their squad. Therefore signing another attacking midfielder is maybe not the Gunners priority this summer.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery has virtually admitted that the club has completed their incoming busy unless a special player comes along. Maybe Malcom is that special player. He would add a new dimension to the Gunners attack.
The 21-year-old would energy, dribbling skills and pace. Both Mkhitaryan and Ozil are intelligent players, with good vision, but neither are known for their dribbling skills or being the most energetic players on the pitch.
Malcom would be a different option at the disposal of boss Emery, which could make all the difference in the new campaign.
Malcom is the type of player Arsenal should sign
Arsenal seems to be working on a tight budget this summer. The club has not spent an enormous amount of money on transfers so far in the current transfer window.
However, the Gunners should be pursuing players like Malcom. He is a young, highly-rated player, who could become a top player in the future. The 21-year-old will also no doubt have a substantial sell-on potential if he does develop into a top player.
Arsenal’s work in the transfer market has looked solid so far this summer. However, as one fan put it, signing Malcom would be the cherry on top of the cake for Gunners fans. It now seems unlikely to happen, but in football, you cannot rule anything out.
Should Arsenal pursue an interest in Malcom?
