Arsenal are reportedly preparing for a raid from Premier League rivals Manchester City in January as the league leaders look to poach Alexis Sanchez at the next available chance. This comes after a number of bids from City were supposedly rejected last summer.
Arsenal were hugely unfortunate to fall to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on Saturday as the home side were thwarted almost singlehandedly by David de Gea. The goalkeeper pulled off a string of sublime saves to keep the hosts out.
The scoreline itself did not reflect how well the Gunners played as they created a glut of chances, only to fail to take them. The defeat saw the London side fall down to fifth, a point behind Liverpool in the final Champions Lague place.
While this loss may be a huge setback for the side, they face an even bigger one, as reports have surfaced that Alexis Sanchez will be the subject of a fresh bid from leaders Manchester City as soon as the transfer window re-opens in January.
The Independent reported that: “The expectation is that City will still have to pay over £50m to get Sanchez in January”.
Despite the fact that Sanchez was already touted to leave at the end of the season, Arsene Wenger will not want the Chilean forward to leave midway through the season, especially not to a Premier League rival.
While they would get a good price for the player, he will only go onto make City even stronger.
