The British media has it that Arsenal have stepped in a three-way battle with Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea for a highly-rated Barcelona talent Abel Ruiz.
The 17-year-old Ruiz is a versatile forward who can play on either flank or in the heart of attack and is eyed as one of the biggest talents emerging from the Catalan club.
Contracted to Barcelona until 2019, Abel Ruiz is said to be under a £3 million buy-out clause. The affordability of such an exciting talent has alarmed the Premier League big guns who are vying for Ruiz’s signature, the Mirror has reported.
Arsenal and Chelsea are said to have already contacted the player’s representatives whereas Manchester City are keeping a low profile, for now, just monitoring the situation.
Ruiz joined Barcelona from Valencia in 2012. He is currently playing for Barcelona B where he impressed with his performances both on the domestic level and in the UEFA Youth League. Ruiz bagged a goal in 4 appearances in the new season.
The 17-year-old Barcelona starlet is currently representing Spain at the Under 17 World Cup in India where he bagged a late winner from the penalty spot in a 2-1 triumph over France to push Spain through to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Barcelona are said to be reluctant to see their teenager leave Camp Nou and are expected to offer their player a new deal to turn his head away from a potential departure to the Premier League.
It happens too often that talented Barcelona youngsters who find it hard to break into the first team at Camp Nou leave for English clubs and the Catalans are determined to prevent it from happening with Abel Ruiz.
