Alexis Sanchez’s name has been on the back pages for what seems like an eternity, with his future at Arsenal under huge scrutiny. The Chilean has cut an isolated figure recently, with rumours of dressing room unrest undermining Arsenal’s season, while he has been left out of Arsenal’s squad to play Bournemouth on Sunday.
It was widely assumed that the forward would join Manchester City in January, with a view to reuniting with former manager Pep Guardiola, while it would see Arsenal make some money for the Gunners to put towards a replacement, rather than losing him for nothing in the summer.
However, it has been reported that City are unwilling to pay Arsenal’s demands price-wise, with Manchester United supposedly interested in the player. If the rumours that United will offer Henrikh Mkhitaryan and some form of money in exchange for Sanchez are true, then Arsenal should take the deal with no questions asked.
Sanchez is a world-class player, but it has been clear for some time that he will leave the club. Mkhitaryan, on the other hand, is still searching for his place in the Premier League, with Jose Mourinho rarely using the player. Perhaps with the Gunners, the former-Borussia Dortmund forward can rekindle the form he showed in Germany.
If Arsenal are also offered cash, then they can reinvest this money in a new player in the current window or in the summer, while they will also have a very talented player in Mkhitaryan to replace Sanchez.
Honestly, deals like this do not come around often, and if it is true that United are willing to offer this package as part of a deal for Sanchez, then Arsenal must take it.
