Arsenal are being linked with a summer move for Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick the summer. The Mirror are claiming that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger could make an attempt to sign the central midfielder this summer, when his contract expires.
The Mirror also claims that Gunners boss Wenger is a big fan of Carrick and has tried to sign the veteran former-England star on three separate occassions. With Carrick becoming a free agent this summer, the Frenchman may just make a move for the midfielder.
Carrick will no doubt be in-demand, but a move to another big club like Arsenal could be tempting for the former-Tottenham star.
Arsenal have been low on defensive midfield options in recent seasons. Midfielders Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all look set to leave the clubs playing staff this summer with the trio’s contracts at the Emirates Stadium expiring.
That means the Gunners will be in need of strengthening in the centre of the park. Carrick would only be a short-term solution though, as the midfielder is 34 years-old. He may be a decent player, but has endured an injury-hit couple of seasons and is now past his best.
For me Arsenal should be looking to secure better quality and a player who will not have to be replaced in a season’s time.
Would Michael Carrick be a good signing?
