Arsenal are once again being linked with a big-money move for Barcelona’s highly-rated France international forward Ousmane Dembele. According to Football London, Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has made contact with Barcelona about the forward’s availability.
A loan move could be realistic
It seems highly unlikely that Arsenal are going to secure the young forward on a permanent deal, as the Gunners have reportedly already spent their very limited. Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has also ruled out a permanent exit for the France international.
However, a temporary move may just suit both the Gunners and the Catalan giants. The 21-year-old would get to play more regular first-team football in north London than he would in Catalonia.
Competition for game time tough at Barcelona
Getting into the Barcelona starting line-up on a regular basis is very difficult. The Catalan giants have the formidable South American duo of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, with the Philippe Coutinho playing a deeper role.
The competition for places has only intensified this summer with the arrival of Brazilian winger Malcom, who joined from Roma for a fee in the region of £35million. Ironically, the youngster was reportedly a former transfer target of Arsenal.
Malcom impressed on his debut for the Spanish champions by scoring against Roma. Both Malcom and Dembele are raw, so it will be a battle of the youngsters for game time next season, considering that Messi is hardly ever rested and neither is Suarez.
Dembele would face competition for a starting role at Arsenal. However, it would not be a battle against some of the best forwards in the world game.
Deal unlikely to happen this summer
Arsenal has been linked with Dembele for a while now, and nothing has materialised. I get the feeling the youngster may become the next Karim Benzema or Gonzalo Higuain, as he will be linked with a move to Arsenal in every transfer window.
Dembele would no doubt be an exciting addition for the Gunners. However, a deal to sign the Frenchman looks unlikely at this moment in time, as much as the papers make out that the forward is boss Unai Emery’s top target.
With just over a week left until the transfer window shuts, there may just be time for the Gunners to squeeze in one more addition to their squad. Will it be Ousmane Dembele, I don’t think so.
Does Arsenal have a realistic chance of signing Ousmane Dembele this summer?
