According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal have no clubs standing in their way for Jean-Michael Seri’s signature. The Gunners have been keen on the 26-year-old for most of the summer, but have seen the likes of Barcelona and AS Roma edge themselves ahead, with the latter making an official bid for the Nice midfielder. Latest reports say the duo are no longer in the running.
Seri made 34 Ligue 1 appearances last season, contributing 16 goals. He’s said to have a £36m release clause, a price Arsenal don’t appear keen to match, but the Londoners do have a need for a creative midfielder given Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere are currently out injured.
With only Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Aaron Ramsey the only midfielders fit for Arsenal ahead of tonight’s Premier League opener against Leicester, Seri may be a handy purchase. Arsenal are 1/2 to win against Leicester City this evening, but they do have problems in the squad that needs addressing.
They go into the new season with a number of injuries and adding to their squad with a talented player like Seri would surely be a good thing. Nice aren’t going to sell for less than the player’s asking price which may be slightly above Arsenal’s estimates. The situation could change if the Gunners can sell some deadwood and raise funds, but they’ve struggled to offload unwanted players this summer.
