According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to steal OGC Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri from under the nose of fierce rivals Arsenal this summer. The 25-year-old has attracted interest from AS Roma and Barcelona, but Tottenham are believed to be pursuing the Ivorian heavily and may have edged themselves in front of Arsenal in the race to sign him.
Nice are holding out for £35m, the player’s release clause, and rejected a £20m bid from Roma recently. Seri has enjoyed a standout season at the Allianz Riviera, scoring and creating 16 goals in 34 Ligue 1 games while making 74 chances and boasting 37 successful dribbles (84%). He looks set for a departure this summer as a result but he’s still undecided about a destination.
Tottenham Hotspur are an attractive proposition given they’ve had back-to-back Premier League title challenges and have Champions League football to offer in 2017/18. Arsenal finished outside of the top-four last season and could be losing their two best players from the squad, as well as a couple other coveted talents. Arsenal aren’t in a good moment and Seri may look to avoid them as a result, despite manager Arsene Wenger’s track record with French-based players.
Spurs and Arsenal have the money to meet the player’s asking price but will have to weigh up all their other options before making an official approach this summer.
