Arsenal have long been linked with Barcelona forward Pedro, and it appears the Spanish international is once again on the Gunners’ radar this summer. A long-serving Catalan, Pedro has spent his entire professional career at the Nou Camp, but has gone from a regular first-team player to being bench duty every season, and he may consider a change of scenery as a result.
The 27-year-old scored and created 12 goals in 15 La Liga starts last season, and didn’t come close to dethroning the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez or Neymar from the side. He’s made over 300 appearances for Barcelona, scoring a total of 100 goals, and would be ideal to operate as a wide forward in the Arsenal side.
Manager Arsene Wenger played down the need for new recruits this summer, but various reports are suggesting the Londoners are monitoring Pedro. The Spanish international wouldn’t break the bank, and his lack of start with Barcelona shouldn’t be viewed as a lack of ability. He’s a player who could improve the Arsenal attack, and would complement former teammate Alexis Sanchez well.
Pedro would also renew acquaintances with his international teammate Santi Cazorla if he made the switch to the Emirates, so there are two players who could convince him to sign. Wenger is alleged to have made contact with the 27-year-old, so more news on the prospective move is expected to unfold in the coming weeks.
